“D” Street Homeless Shelter
317 E. 15th Street, Merced
Phone: 209-725-8188

Merced County’s poverty rate rose to 27.4% according to the U.S. Census with the national average at 15.9%. The number of reasons for local homelessness was the high cost of housing and high unemployment rates in the county. The continued lack of affordable housing in this area coupled with the population growth and the disproportionate numbers of the county’s population living well below the federal poverty level put the homeless in Merced County at a very high risk.

The “D” Street Homeless Shelter is operated 365 days a year and is open 24/7. The only entrance criterion for our shelter is the self-declaration of homelessness. Currently, we provide each client requesting our services with three meals per day, showers, personal hygiene products, clean beds, case management services, and security to enable a restful place to sleep.
